A little Medtner

In honor of my good friend, fellow USF student, and extraordinary pianist, Jeff Chodill, I wanted to post my favorite number from his graduate concert in Spring 2011 at USF, consisting entirely of Nikolay Medtner.

Mozart Church Sonata 1 in Eb Major, KV 67

I played this at a December concert for the patients at Hope Lodge, the recovery housing for cancer patients from Moffit Cancer Ctr at USF.  Dr. Brian Moorhead played the clarinet in our duet, and we have a recording I should put up!  Many thanks Dr. Moorhead of the USF  School of Music faculty and the Florida Orchestra for inviting me to perform in this wonderful event, and to Lloyd Goldstein, who  is currently Artist In Residence: Certified Music Practitioner with The Arts In Medicine Program at The Moffitt Cancer Center.

This Friday, March 2, the Friday Morning Musicale program, which begins at 11 a.m. will be a piano recital by 13 year old Nadia Azzi.  She will play works by Bach, Mozart and Chopin.  She entered 8 events at the festival this month.  At age 11, Nadia made her New York City debut at Carnegie Hall and returned as Grand Prize Winner of the Crescendo Int'l Competition this month.  She began piano lessons at the age of 5 with Kinuyo Engelbrecht.  Currently she studies piano with Leonidas Lipovetsky and Dr. Grigorios Zamparas and violin with Lei Lui.  FREE

        The New-Music Consortium at USF presents a two-day symposium of three concerts featuring compositions written by student composers from around the state of Florida. The symposium will showcase three separate events including a concert featuring The USF Percussion Ensemble (Friday), a recital performed by student chamber ensembles, and an electronic music concert (Saturday). 

And another at Florida College-  Senior Recital: Sarah Heaton Sat, March 5, 4pm – 6pm.  Puckett Auditorium. This is FREE for certain!

																	USF  "The Tango in American Piano Music."  Guest Artist Recital and Lecture: Oscar Macchioni Sun. March 6, 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM (MUS) Music Recital Hall   This recital provides an overview of the tango in 20th century American piano music. It is a musical presentation of Macchioni’s latest book which includes tangos by Aaron Copland, Samuel Barber, Virgil Thomson, Chester Biscardi, David Jaggard and William Bolcom. I am attending the Saturday morning class from 10-12 for Piano Pedagogy II.  As I've never learned from a Russian teacher and there will be students performing for her, this should be interesting!  As a side note, I am looking forward to  continuing my 
training after graduation through College masterclasses.
